Time has gotten away from me and low and behold the school year is quickly winding down. As summer approaches and the students are busy playing sports, going to the pool, heading off on vacation in some of the down time that may happen I would strongly suggest that you encourage your student to get his/her instrument out and play a little bit. It is very easy to put the instrument away for the summer but it makes it all the more difficulty to play in the fall. One of the biggest complaints I hear in the fall is that the students mouth hurts....that is because they are out of shape. It is just like a sport if you don't stay in shape you might be a little sore when you start working out again!

Merry Christmas!!! Thank you all for the hard work this first half of the year. The Christmas concert was GREAT!! Blessings to you and your family this holiday season!
I'm back, spent the weekend and Monday and Tuesday at the NAfME (National Association for Music Educators) national conference in Nashville, Tennessee. It was a very long 4 days but very rewarding 4 days, I saw some very amazing young performers and went to some great workshops.
Band has gotten off to a great start this year. Please continue to encourage your student to practice. Our first performance is a joint concert with High Mount School at there Fall Festival on October 4th at Mel Price Park in Swansea. We will begin playing at 5:45 pm and students should plan to arrive by 5:30 pm.
On October 3rd we are going to rehearse together at William Holliday from 11-2:30. We are asking the students to bring a sack lunch that day. Due to a student that has severe peanut allergies please do not pack anything that contains any peanut products. Thanks for all you support! Long time since my last post, but things have been very busy. The students that are participating in contest are working very hard on their music and putting in extra practice time before and after school and even on the weekends. I couldn't be prouder!!! The 5-8th graders decided to learn extra songs for an assembly in March. They could have taken the easy way out and just chose to play our Spring Concert music but they chose to challenge themselves and learn an extra 3 songs
Congratulation to all the band and chorus students for a great concert last night. You should be proud, all your hard work paid off!!
Special thanks to the 8th grade students that assisted in the percussion section of the Intermediate Band. Beginning band lessons have started and there has been a few bumps in the road with a couple of days off for Columbus day and Institute Day plus some assemblies, but everyone has had at least one lesson!! The Intermediate Band and PJH Band is continuing to work on music for the Harvest Fest plus we have started working on music for the Christmas Concert.
Have a great weekend!!! Today is the first day of beginning band for new 4-5th graders. The students will learn how to put their instruments together, hold their instruments and play their first note. Until the students learn the first 5 notes we will not be having full band on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please keep checking the website for information regarding all the bands!
PJH Band's first practice sheet will be due on Tuesday, September 4th. Don't forget band fees are due tomorrow!!
We are in full swing now for 5th grade band at William Holliday and the Pontiac Jr. High Band. Both bands have had one successful full band rehearsal. Music for the upcoming performance at the Harvest Fest has been handed out.
